Hamara Saaman Aapke Paas hai

This post is inspired from my brother's experience today at the Mumbai airport. He had flown down from Delhi ( after having spent the night before at the Delhi airport because of flight cancellation and mismanagement on part of Jetlite staff) and was to take a connecting train to Surat from Bandra. After reaching Bandra station when he called me up and said that he had mistakenly picked up someone else's suitcase (both of them were exactly similar), I initially thought that it would have happened because of the hurry. He later told me that not only were they exactly similar but the other person's surname too was the same. The mistake obviously was his that he did not check the complete name!

We eventually got our suitcase from the baggage section at the airport and deposited the other suitcase there! But when I tried to relate this incident with my travel experience, I realised that it was very easy for someone to get away with someone else's luggage, intentionally or unintentionally. Shouldn't there be a check out or something when one leaves the airport?

I feel that the barcode stickers that are put on the check in bags, can be put on the cabin baggages as well and these could be read again at checkout! This sure would require more patience and cooperation on part of the travellers!!! I feel it would be worth it!

What do u guys feel? Am I looking at ways to transfer my responsibility to system or this would be really helpful in building a robust system?
